2009 NWAGA Player of the Year



J.C. Stevenson, a University of Nebraska golfer from Grand Island was named the NWAGA 2009 Amateur of the Year. Stevenson accumulated 2,095 points throughout the summer to help her capture the award. In 2009 summer season Stevenson won the Stroke Play Championship at The Country Club of Lincoln and the Western Stroke Play Tournament at Cross Creek Links in Cambridge. At the Match Play Championship in Kearney, she was runner-up to Kayla Knopik of Papillion. Stevenson's great play throughout the summer led her to becoming Amateur of the Year.

Others in the running for the award were Susan Marchese of Omaha 1,345 pts; Katie Keiser of Gothenburg, 1,157 pts; Abby Bartlett of Grand Island 1,150 pts; and Kayla Knopik 1,132 pts.

2009 NWAGA Scramble New Victors

Bellevue - The 2009 NWAGA Scramble went underway Monday, September 14th and Tuesday, September 15th at Platteview Country Club in Bellevue. The course was in beautiful condition along with the weather. The 2009 Champions, Deb Denbeck, Linda Willis-Bakula, Marsha Itkin, and Felicia Hutnick all from Omaha shot a total of 12 under (64-69=132) to take home the victory. Two teams tied for second place shooting nine under for the two days. Denbeck's team had a two stroke lead on Kluver's team the first day. They then fired back again the second day to win the tournament by three strokes over Whitley's team and Rounsborg's team. Team captain, Whitley, rallied her team to improve by three strokes to finish in a tie for second place. They shot a two day total of 135 (69-66). Rounsborg's team shot a two day total of 135 (67-68) to put them in a tie for second place as well. Link here for Event Results.

 

 

2009 USGA Women's State Team
Fort Wayne, Indiana - Susan Marchese from Omaha, Nebraska Team Captain, was consistant all three days. Marchese finished in 83rd carding a three total 250 (83-84-83). Placing 93rd was Jane Pohlman of Omaha. On Pohlman's final day she improved six strokes from her previous score. Pohlman shot a three day total of 254 (89-86-79). Anne Robertson of Columbus finished 118th shooting a three day total of 266 (84-93-89).To view tournament results please visit www.stateteam.org for more details.
4 Years of Victory!
York - Jane Pohlman of Omaha is crowned the 2009 NWAGA Senior Stroke Play Champion for the fourth year in a row! Pohlman fired rounds of (76-81-74=231). Pohlman led all three days and took home medalist honors after round two. Pohlman won her first Senior Stroke Play Championship in 2006 at Pacific Springs, she repeated in 2007 at Kearney Country Club and 2008 at Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha. She won by six strokes this year over Peggy Williams of Omaha at York Country Club in York. Williams carded rounds of (80-80-77=237) for a runner-up finish. Nine strokes back from the lead was Julie Hall of Norfolk with scores of (77-83-80=240). Link here for final individual flighted scoring results.

Just a reminder to NWAGA members and non-members; All entrants must be members of the Association as of May 15 for tournaments held in May and June, as of June 15 for tournaments held in July and August, and as of August 1 for tournaments held in September. The membership must be received in the office on or before any date specified in order to play in any of the tournaments you may be interested in.
