2024 Founders Scholarships

NWAGA will distribute $2,000 scholarships to female Nebraska High School Seniors who have played high school golf and are furthering their education at a 2-year, 4-year, or a technical school in Nebraska. One scholarship will be awarded to an applicant in each NWAGA region (Eastern Nebraska, Central Nebraska and Western Nebraska) with the remaining scholarships awarded regardless of region. Those eligible are Female Nebraska High School Seniors who have played high school golf and are furthering their education at a 2-year, 4-year, or technical school in
Nebraska. Deadline for application is Monday March 4, 2024 at 5 p.m. CST.

2024 Founders Scholarship Recipients

NWAGA is pleased to honor its recipients of the 2024 Founders Scholarships: Camryn Johnson, Broken Bow, Addy Olson, Lincoln, Madelyn Nielsen, Beatrice, Makenna Wilkinson, Cozad, & Cassandra Hopwood, Dalton.  Each will be awarded a scholarship to continue their education in Nebraska.

Camryn Johnson, Broken Bow

Camryn graduated from Broken Bow High School in May. Johnson lettered in golf all four years highlighted by winning the Class C Individual Championship in 2023. Johnson helped Broken Bow win the Class C team title each of the last four years. In the classroom, Johnson was a 4.0 student and named to the NSAA's Academic All-State Golf team twice. She is also member of the National Honor Society & Student Council. In the fall, she will be headed to Wayne State College with plans to study Sport Management and play golf as a member of the WSC Women's Golf Team.

Addy Olson, Lincoln

Addy graduated from Lincoln Pius X High School in May. Olson participated on the varsity golf team from 2020-2023 including being named Team Caption her senior year. Olson earned medalist honors at district golf in 2023. In addition to athletics, she participated in Archery, Choir and was a manager for the Piux X wrestling team. In the fall, Addy will be attending The University of Nebraska - Lincoln where she'll work to obtain her PGA certification through the PGA Golf Management program.

Madelyn Nielsen, Beatrice

Madelyn graduated from Beatrice High School in May. Nielsen participated in golf all four years in high school, qualifying for state 2021-2023 including placing 11th in 2023. She was also involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, Youth Leadership Beatrice, FCA, Science Club, Swim Team, & Key Club. In the fall, she will be attending Doane University with plans to study Elementary Special Education and play golf for the Tigers.

Makenna Wilkinson, Cozad

Makenna graduated from Cozad High School in May. She was a Varsity Golf team member all four years in high school. Wilkinson was a member of National Honors Society, National Speech and Debate Member, Skills USA, Track, One Act & Speech. In the fall, Wilkinson will attend Central Community College in Kearney where she'll study Business.

Cassandra Hopwood, Dalton

Cassandra graduated from Bridgeport High School in May. She participated in golf from 2021-2023 and was also involved in many other activities including One Act, Band, Speech, Teammates, & Quiz Bowl. Hopwood carries a 4.0 grade point average and was on the All-A Honor Roll 2020-2023 and a member of National Honor Society. In the fall, she will be attending University of Nebraska-Kearney to study Psychology & Education.

Contribute to the Founders' Scholarship

Beginning in 2010, the Nebraska Women's Amateur Golf Association Board of Directors began the Fund Day event, to raise money for a scholarship. The Founders' Scholarship was created and has helped girls with their tuition, room and board, or books as they pursue a college degree.
