2024 Founders Scholarships

NWAGA will distribute $2,000 scholarships to female Nebraska High School Seniors who have played high school golf and are furthering their education at a 2-year, 4-year, or a technical school in Nebraska. One scholarship will be awarded to an applicant in each NWAGA region (Eastern Nebraska, Central Nebraska and Western Nebraska) with the remaining scholarships awarded regardless of region. Those eligible are Female Nebraska High School Seniors who have played high school golf and are furthering their education at a 2-year, 4-year, or technical school in
Nebraska. Deadline for application is Monday March 4, 2024 at 5 p.m. CST.

2023 Founders Scholarship Recipients

NWAGA is pleased to honor its recipients of the 2023 Founders Scholarships: Michalee Brownawell of Hershey, Regan Covrig of Papillion, Jaycie Cox of Valentine, Emma Foland of Bennington and Faith Murithi of St. Paul.  Each will be awarded a scholarship to continue their education in Nebraska.

Michalee Brownawell, Hershey

Michalee will graduate from Hershey High School in May. Brownawell lettered in golf her junior and senior seasons and also participated in Basketball, One-Act and Dazzlers her senior year. In the classroom, Brownawell was a 4.0 student and named to the NSAA's Academic All-State Golf team and a Local Winner of the NSAA's Believers and Achievers award. In the fall, she will be headed to University of Nebraska-Kearney with plans to study Business.

Regan Covrig, Papillion

Regan will graduate from Papillion La Vista High School in May. Covrig participated on the varsity golf team from 2019-2022 earning Academic All State honors the last two years. In addition to athletics, she was a member of National Honor Society and on the Honor Roll from 2019-2023. In the fall, Regan will be attending Doane University where she'll play golf and study Art.

Jaycie Cox, Valentine

Jaycie will graduate from Valentine High School in May. Cox participated in golf her junior and senior years. She was also involved in Student Council, Interact, National Honor Society and the B.I.O.N.I.C. team. Academically, Cox was on her school's High Honor Roll all four years. In the fall, she will be attending Northeast Community College with plans to study Speech Pathology.

Emma Foland, Bennington

Emma will graduate from Bennington High School in May. She was a Varsity Golf letter winner from 2020-2022. Boland was very active serving as President of the Leo Club/Key Club, was a member of National Honors Society, National French Honors Society, Principal's Advisory Committee, Athletic Advisory Committee and Quiz Bowl. Emma was on Principal's Honor Roll and Summa Cum Laude all four years of high school. In the fall, Foland will attend Hastings College where she'll play golf and study Education and Psychology.

Faith Murithi, St. Paul

Faith will graduate from St. Paul High School in May. She participated in golf from 2020-2022 and was also involved in many other sports including Tennis her senior year. Murithi carries a 4.0 grade point average and was on the All-A Honor Roll 2019-2023 and a member of National Honor Society. She was a member of FCA, FBLA, Student Council and Color Guard. In the fall, she will be attending University of Nebraska-Lincoln to study Biology.

Contribute to the Founders' Scholarship

Beginning in 2010, the Nebraska Women's Amateur Golf Association Board of Directors began the Fund Day event, to raise money for a scholarship. The Founders' Scholarship was created and has helped girls with their tuition, room and board, or books as they pursue a college degree.
