2011 Match Play Event Results

Mary Narzisi and Katelyn Wright

Omaha - Mary Narzisi of Omaha won her first NWAGA state title Wednesday morning at Tiburon Golf Club. The former University of Minnesota golfer started off with a quick two hole lead after two holes. Narzisi went three up through five, but University of Lincoln golfer Katelyn Wright battled back to move down one through nine. Narzisi started swinging off the back nine and continued her lead to three up through twelve. Wright put up a fight and the match went eighteen holes, Narzisi winning one up.

Who knew there would be some similarities between a match held today and a match thirty years ago? In 1981 the final match came down to two UNL golfers Cathy Nelson and Shelly Godeken. This was Nelson's first state championship won as is Narzisis'. Another strange fact, Godeken is Katelyn Wright's mother. Godeken and Wright will now share ownership to the runner-up trophy.
